Steps to Take to Jailbreak 3GS iPhones
It’s a common fallacy that to jailbreak 3GS iphones is completely impossible. Luckily for you, I’ve put together some instructions to get you going with unlocking these types of phones. Once you get the software that you need downloaded, this process will take about 15 minutes before you’ll have a jailbroken phone.
1. Before you unlock your mobile device you need to jailbreak it and to do this you will need the genuine Apple IPSW. Plug in the iPhone and follow that up by clicking the restore key. The screen will ask you if you agree to do a back-up of the mobile phone and then you will need to download the utility that will start the restore process. As soon as you notice the download notification pop-up on the left side of the screen, unplug the mobile phone. You don’t actually want to let the restore complete; you solely need to download the IPSW file.
2. When the download completes, open the redsn0w app and follow that up by clicking on the key that says “browse”. If you are downloading using Apple iTunes, you have no choice but to click on the iPhone2, 1_3.0 7A1 file – this can be found in your library under the folder for iPhone Utility Updates; in user account.
3. Hit ok, and then next. The firmware will open up. It will load with a splash screen and will then ask you which choices to want to install. Pick Icy and Cydia. Hit next. Redsn0w will then finish the firmware assembly process.
4. When the firmware is created, redsn0w will then immediately place the mobile unit into the DFU mode. You should know that 3GS iPhones carry diverse processes with relation to DFU mode vis a vis older models of. Carefully observe the procedure to disconnect, turn off and plug in the unit. Press the button that says “home” until the iTunes logo is displayed. The app will then commence the process of the jailbreak.
5. The jailbreak should now be complete, but that doesn’t mean that you’re finished. Now, you want to connect to wireless and open up Icy. Hit edit, and then hit the plus key. Now, click the add key, and type in this sequence: http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com. That will tell it where the source is. Hit add once again to make it accept the selection. Refresh and make sure that it accepted that source.
6. While you are in the category for the Icy app, you should scroll toward the bottom of the screen and choose the “Utilities button. Ensure that you pick “Utilities”, not “Utility”. In the diection of the bottom of this utilities screen you should locate “ultrasn0w”. Select that and then Press “Install”. After the completion of the installation, your jailbreak 3GS is complete – simpley reboot the phone and you are good to go!
